I want to get my NuArc plate burner up and running over break but I am v. concerned about like dude where the fuck what the how do I plug this thing in? Without like overloading the electricity at my house. (I am also now curious about how my dad handles this type of thing at his gun shop with all of his machines and oh my god I wonder what kind of utility bill they get for that place.) Why does my room smell like farts all of the sudden. W/e. Anyway the thing weighs a shit ton (had to be shipped freight) and it’s in my garage and probably won’t be leaving until I move out or somesing. I think it’s by an outlet? That the cord could reach? Christ I hope so.
Need to do:
1. Clean that motherfucker n make her sparkle like a goddamn unicorn
2. Find out the situation with the mercury bulb
3. Try not to go blind/get a sunburn from it no seriously
4. Check the vacuum pump/frame and make sure it werqs
5. Go to town on that thing bitch
JK got my chemicals. Am going to clean out my locker today. Phew!
Tried to make some cyanotypes last night starting at 5 at my friends’ place, and obvz the winter sunlight ain’t doin’ the trick but I’m beginning to think that my problem lies more with my botched formula. My pictures are far too light even though they really have been given sufficient exposure time (I’ve got the last two still being exposed somewhere somehow as we speak) and well they ain’t gettin’ much darker. And pre-development, they look dark enough but then I process them and they get way lighter and I’m just wtf. But the botched formula theory makes sense, because the way I botched it would cause it to turn out this way. So. Meh. Trial and error.
Hoping to take notes on how to work my NuArc plate burner today because the Cadillac of UV lightboxes is sitting untouched in my garage and has been since June and that’s fucked uppppppp.
Mini goal: do gum bichromates before break ends! Light sources permitting anyway.#journal
If they cleaned out the school darkroom and threw out my chemicals and all my shit while I was out of town I am going to fucking cry
Remind me to get off my ass and go do something soon.
Suck ass for not updating this. Ummmm for my last photo assignment I decided to just print a shit ton of pictures from my photo journal, and I actually just ordered like 22 color 4x6 prints online from Walgreens. I think I’m up to 25 black and white 8x10s? I dunno. Originally I was gonna do all RC paper but I started running low and cutting corners and like only doing one of each print, but as of today I have given in and pulled out ye ol fiber based paper. But it’s cool because today, the day before my last photo class, my teacher finally taught me how to use the heat press to get them to lay flat so EL OH EL ON MY LIFE fuck prints that don’t lay flat, they look like shit. Buuut jah. I am getting very good at make efficient test strips. Also, officially a convert to making your test strips by three seconds instead of five. And here is a list for myself of what I want to print:
1. Andre’s fat cat
2. Knox at the performance art party
3. Kevin and Jessica
4. Building on the hill+fog
5. Kroger in the rain at night
6. Mail truck in the rain
7. Duck picture?
8. McKenzie at the park?
(Fuck low contrast negatives lol?)
9. Feet at Lizzie’s wedding
10. Katrina and Seth at Lizzie’s wedding? (Other pictures from Katrina’s wedding?)
11. King of the Jews
12. Zak and Josh?
13. Picture of building from Lizzie’s wedding
14. Maybe the sign on the Bijou?
Idk. I can’t print all of these. BUT I WILL PUT MY BEST FOOT FLOWERED.#journal

here’s a good example of some film destruction, 35mm soaked in alcohol pre-shoot.
crazy day yesterday! thanks to my new friends here. these happy balloons are for you! x
Fuckin… football game got in my way of getting to the darkroom on Saturday. Unfortunately, that was also the last sunny day outside for a while. FML. But I’ll figure it out.
Ummmmmmm looks like I might have darkroom access over Christmas break, and please god I hope so or I’m going to die of boredom. I need more practice with printing out processes and I need to master printing Liquid Light on glass. My goal for when school’s out is to start making pieces I could include in a portfolio and potentially sell or use if I were to get an art gig or use in order to get one.
Right now my biggest frustration with photography that is entirely out of my hands is the limits on size. I want to make photos like 5 feet tall. Kinko’s can only print out digital negatives for me up to 11x17. GOD. And watercolor paper is 22x30, and, I mean, that’s pretty big. But I’m talkin’, like, 30x40 or worse. That’s what I want.
Never did get around to finishing my pinhole cameras even though what work I had left would take like 5 minutes. Needless to say, I’m probably gonna have to come up with some internal deadlines over break in order to get ANYTHING done. Need to start brain stormin’ for ideas. Not really interested in making plain silver prints unless I add a lil sumthin extra to ‘em. Time will tell.#journal
